Articles: Builders Inducted Into Hall Of Fame The Toronto Star - Saturday February 14, 1999 Harold Green, chairman of Verdiroc Construction Co. and a principle of Greenwin Property Management, plus brothers Al and Sid Silverberg, the principals of Dominion Sheet Metal and Roofing, have been inducted in to the home builders' hall of fame. The Great Toronto Home Builders' Association has installed only 32 people into the hall of fame since it was launched in 1984. Green was saluted for his lifetime accomplishments in housing in Canada, his innovation in high-rise construction and his efforts to create equitable working conditions and benefits for construction workers. Greenwin Construction was founded in 1948 by Lipa Green and his son Harold managed the company's construction division from 1952 to 1978, during which time he brought more than 3,000 housing units to the market. Green started Verdiroc Construction in 1978 and was later joined there by his sons Eric, Cary and Kevin. Among Verdiroc's condominium developments are Castle Hill, The Ports, Aurora Highlands, The Orion and the Braxton. The Silverberg brothers have put roofs over the heads of more than 1 million people since they started working together in 1951. Their firm introduced various technical innovations in building and was the first to put vinyl siding on a house in Canada. The Silverberg brothers have served on many committees and on the board of directors of the GTHBA since joining the association 46 years ago |
